CPL Productions lands three BAFTA nominations

Award-winning production company CPL Productions has been nominated for a total three BAFTA Awards.

Ratings phenomenon Married at First Sight: UK, produced for E4, is nominated in the reality category. Hit Sky series Rob & Romesh Vs. has landed two nominations, for comedy entertainment programme and entertainment performance.

The BAFTA’s are the British television’s highest honours. This year’s juries saw more than 500 voters spend 127 hours participating in 43 juries to decide the nominations. The BAFTA Television awards will take place on Sunday 12 May and will be broadcast on BBC One and iPlayer.

Rob & Romesh Vs lands RTS Award nod

CPL Productions, ‘s hit series Rob & Romesh Vs., produced for Sky Max, has been nominated for the award for comedy entertainment at this year’s Royal Television Society (RTS) Awards.

The series stars, comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan, are also nominated in the entertainment performance category.

The RTS Awards are the gold standard of achievement in the British television community. Each year awards recognise excellence across the entire range of programme making and broadcasting skills. The winners will be announced via ceremony in London on Tuesday, March 26 hosted by Tom Allen.

Donna Gomes joins CPL as Head of Legal and Business Affairs

CPL Productions today announces that Donna Gomes has joined the Senior Leadership Team as Head of Legal and Business Affairs.

She joins CPL from Mothership Productions, where she was Director of Commercial and Business Affairs and part of the team who launched Kelly Webb-Lamb’s indie. Whilst there she was responsible for a range of commissions and deals.

Prior to this Donna led various Legal and Business Affairs teams across BBC and BBC Studios, including The Natural History Unit. With a particular love of commercial deal making, Donna has led and closed key deals with national and international partners, including Disney+, Warner Bros Discovery, National Geographic, S4C, Eos, and C4. Donna is known for shaping a range of novel and unprecedented co-productions, collaborations, creative partnerships and talent deals.

She will report in to CPL’s Commercial Director, Janet Oakes.

Love is in the air as Warner Bros Discovery UK & Ireland confirm series 4 of 90 Day Fiancé UK from CPL

Warner Bros Discovery UK & Ireland has commissioned a new series of the global franchise 90 Day Fiancé – produced by CPL Productions. Series 4 of 90 Day Fiancé UK, one of the top performing shows on discovery+, will drop on the streaming service in summer 2025.

Fans of the franchise can also look forward to more Tell All specials, which bring the couples back to the screen for exclusive updates on their lives as they get together for the first time in person. Warner Bros Discovery UK & Ireland has announced the commission of specials for both 90 Day Fiancé UK series 3 and 4.

Both 90 Day Fiancé UK and the Tell All special are produced by CPL Productions. Following the launch of its UK spin-off in 2022, the global format has been met with nothing but love from its fans both at home and abroad. In 2023, 90 Day Fiancé UK was one of the top entertainment titles in EMEA for discovery+ subscriber acquisition.

The second season of 90 Day Fiancé UK maintained the format’s position in the UK & Ireland as the leading discovery+ entertainment show. The franchise has seen an almost 30% season-on-season growth in subscriber acquisition to the streaming platform.

As fans get ready for the exciting launch of 90 Day Fiancé UK Series 3, which drops on discovery+ this summer, 90 Day Fiancé UK Series 4 promises another extraordinary cast of characters, each taking a leap of faith to pursue a relationship where the odds are truly stacked against them. Viewers will follow eight Brits and their long-distance lovers as they navigate the complexities of love and commitment over 90 intense days.

In addition to the series, the hugely popular 90 Day Fiancé UK Tell All, was the most-watched episode on discovery+ during its first month on the service.

The series were ordered by Clare Laycock and commissioned by Charlotte Reid. Deirdre Dowling is the commissioning editor of Warner Bros. Discovery and executive producers for CPL are Murray Boland, Dermot Caulfield, Danielle Lux and Emma Jones.

MAFS: UK lands Broadcast Award nomination

Following a record-breaking season eight run, Married at First Sight: UK has been nominated for best multiplatform programme at the Broadcast Awards 2024.

The Broadcast Awards celebrate the best in British TV channels and content, and are a the chance to reward and recognise the best programmes, channels and talent within the UK’s television industry. Winners will be announced during a ceremony held on the evening of 8 February 2024, at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House, London.

Married at First Sight UK is produced by CPL Productions, based on a format from Snowman Productions; Married at First Sight is distributed internationally by Red Arrow Studios International.

Whatever Happened to Baby Jane Austen wins award for Best Radio sitcom once again

The winners of the Comedy.co.uk Awards 2023 have been announced, recognising the best television and radio of the last calendar year.

Two rounds of public voting throughout January saw the 351 new productions to air during the year whittled down to a shortlist of six in each of ten categories, with voters also asked to pick a single favourite Comedy Of The Year.

In their 18th year, the award winners this year are lead by the final series of BBC One sitcom Ghosts, which picks up both Best Returning TV Sitcom – for a third year running – and the overall Comedy Of The Year.

Catherine Tate’s British-Australian BBC comedy Queen Of Oz, following a disgraced member of the Royal Family who is sent Down Under, was voted Best New TV Sitcom.

Elsewhere, Taskmaster takes the title of Best TV Entertainment Show for a seventh time and Would I Lie To You? wins Best TV Panel Show for a seventh year running – its eleventh in total.

There were also prizes for Good Omens, Whatever Happened To Baby Jane Austen? (starring French & Saunders), The Unbelievable Truth and You’re Dead To Me.

Channel 4 commissions Married at First Sight UK reunion special

Channel 4 in the UK has commissioned a new Married at First Sight UK reunion special, produced by CPL Productions, following the finale last week of the show’s record rating season eight run.

The special will see some of season eight’s brides and grooms attend a dinner party in the English countryside. The special is set to air in 2024.

Red Arrow Studios International lands Rose d’Or nominations

Nominees for the prestigious 62nd annual Rose d’Or awards were announced today, with hit Red Arrow formats Married at First Sight UKHold the Front Page both shortlisted.

Married at First Sight UK, produced by CPL Productions for Channel 4’s E4, is nominated in the reality and factual entertainment category for the second time. The series made a successful return to E4 for its eighth season earlier this Fall.

Hold the Front Page, also produced by CPL Productions for Sky, is nominated for comedy entertainment. The fun, factual entertainment format stars British comedians Nish Kumar and Josh Widdicombe in the UK – it was recently nominated for a Realscreen Award.

Married at First Sight and Hold the Front Page are both distributed internationally by Red Arrow Studios International.

Selected from over 700 entries across 13 categories. These finalists were voted for by a jury of over 100 broadcast executives, distributors and producers, from across the international television industry.

This year Rose d’Or awards will be presented in an award ceremony on November 27, at King’s Place in London.

Hold the Front Page lands Realscreen Award nod

Trade magazine Realscreen has unveiled its nominations for the 2024 Realscreen Awards, where Hold the Front Page is nominated for best new format.

In this fun factual entertainment format, two celebrities set off around the country in search of scoops, scandals and surprising stories as they explore the unique and often sensational world of local news. In each episode, they’ll spend a week in a different town or village and become reporters for the local newspaper. Their mission: find a story that’s big enough to make the front page. The original UK version stars British comedians Nish Kumar and Josh Widdicombe.

The Realscreen Awards recognize the best in unscripted and non-fiction programming from around the world. The 2024 Realscreen Awards take place Tuesday, January 30 at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel, during the Realscreen Summit 2024.

Hold the Front Page, which is set to return to Sky Max and NOW next year for a second season, is produced by CPL Productions, the Executive Producers are David Taylor, Murray Boland and Danielle Lux. Red Arrow Studios International distribute Hold the Front Page internationally.

Sky announces date for the return of A League of Their Own

Sky Max and NOW have confirmed the brand new, 18th season of BAFTA-winning sports comedy show A League of Their Own will return to screens from Wednesday, October 25. The series sees the return of host Romesh Ranganathan, alongside Jamie Redknapp, Micah Richards and new faces Lioness legend Jill Scott, and comedian, presenter and triple BAFTA-winner, Mo Gilligan.

The brand-new series is set to be another corker, with star guests from the worlds of sport, comedy and television joining the teams each week, including Gareth Bale, James Maddison, Stuart Broad, Mary Earps, Christian Horner, Daniel Sturridge, Katherine Ryan, Tom Davis, Jimmy Carr, Maisie Adam, Guz Khan, Alex Brooker, Big Zuu, and more.

Madcap challenges for the ALOTO family to face include a penalty challenge in front of a packed-out Old Trafford crowd, a Peloton challenge to become the best instructor, a Bazball inspired ALOTO cricket challenge and a turn to ‘glow up’ football managers Iain Dowie and Ian Holloway, before revealing their new looks on the ALOTO catwalk…
