CPL Announces The CPL Partnership

–  A New Way To Support and Nurture The Independent Sector –

CPL today announces a bold new business concept designed to support business growth in the independent sector, for creatives in start-ups to those in more established operations. It is designed to let creatives stay creative, yet still remain in control of their businesses.

CPL Partnership is a new business model for the independent production community that offers an alternative to the deals traditionally brokered by super-indies and distribution companies.  It is a boutique production support business which offers every area of production, business and operational support for those creatives starting out on their own or wishing to grow their indies – and who want to do so without losing either control or IP.

As a straightforward service provider, the CPL Partnership will allow producers to grow successful and fulfilling businesses by focussing on creativity. By providing a one stop shop for back office services, the CPL Partnership will allow burgeoning business to avoid the kind of costly, time-consuming investment in overheads and support structures which often lead small businesses to give away equity and trade control early on in their lifecycle.

Danielle Lux, MD of CPL, said “For some creatives, the business side of running a small indie on their own can be costly, time consuming and often distracting. The CPL Partnership offers a new model to take on all of that heavy lifting – leaving space, time and resources for them to create brilliant programmes”.

CPL’s mission statement is #MakeLifeBetter and, under the management and guidance of its directors, its central philosophy is to create a safe and happy space where ideas blossom, are carefully nurtured and brought to fruition. A place where collaboration in all its forms is prized and the skills of content creation and content delivery are equally valued: somewhere where ideas become a commercial reality.

CPL Productions is a BAFTA Award-winning production company which has long been a home for talented people with excellent ideas and programme making skills – a place where a stroke of genius is crafted into superb programming.

It is with this collaborative ethos that CPL decided to create the CPL Partnership as a distinct business to sit alongside its production company, CPL Productions, and it has been designed to work in partnership with the creative community and support the diversity and growth of the creative economy across the independent sector.

The senior management team at CPL has successfully tackled a wide range of business challenges, from the management buyout of Celador Productions to the establishment of Nit TV – a joint venture company with Harry Hill.  The business team has a varied range of experience with backgrounds in TV, film, radio, distribution, commercial exploitation and gaming. Danielle Lux won Businesswoman of the Year at the Women In Film & TV Awards.  CPL Productions has built its reputation and last year increased its turnover by 36%, as seen in the Broadcast 100. The CPL Partnership will offer clients the benefit of the team’s collective experience in the industry.

Partnership Executive Dawn Beresford will be the first point of contact for any prospective indies and the Partnership programme will utilise the teams run by senior managers including Director of Production Heather Hampson and Commercial Director Janet Oakes to tailor a package of services based on the needs of the indie.  The CPL Partnership will be able to provide support at varying levels as needed throughout the lifecycle of a project, from development through to full series production. Support is offered in the following areas:

Production Support:

From budgeting and negotiating to production accounting and commercial affairs

Talent Management:

All aspects of recruitment and hiring

Business Support:

From office space and facilities to account payments and payroll
